University Hospital Waterford
Clinical Trials Team
The Cancer Research Department at University Hospital Waterford was founded in 1999 and initially consisted of two Principal Investigators (PIs), one Research Nurse and one part-time clinical trial pharmacist. The department is now led by Dr Paula Calvert (Oncology) and Professor Ezzat Elhassadi (Haematology) and has a total of eight PIs across cancer disciplines, two research nurses, four medical registrars, one study co-ordinator, one data manager, a (part-time) clinical trial pharmacist and an assigned radiologist. The department enjoys the support of hospital management and any department that is required to safely treat and support all clinical trial patients.
Cancer Trials Waterford at UHW has a growing portfolio of clinical trials across the major cancer types (breast, colorectal, prostate, haematologic) but also more niche areas including gynaecology and melanoma.
